Local Bands to Light Up North Coast This Weekend

Now in its 4th year, the North Coast Music Festival has always striven to bring the worlds of hip-hop, electronic music, jam bands and indie rock together for a three-day bash at Chicago's Union Park. As always, Chicago's music scene is well-represented in the mix. Here are some highlights:

The Heard (4PM on the North Stage, Friday 8/30): Instrumental funk done right by a group that has been wowing local audiences weekly at Alive One as well as smaller fests all summer.

ProbCause (7PM on the Tent Stage, Friday 8/30): Real Chicago hip-hop that touches on classic R&B and the cutting edge of dubstep.

Future Rock (5:30PM on the North Stage, Saturday 8/31) : Electronic rock with a proven track record at NCMF; fans of Daft Punk and DFA Records will be well-served.

On an On (9PM on the Dos Equis Stage, Saturday 8/31):  Chicago shares this much buzzed-about trio with Minneapolis, but their mix of electro, ambient and synth-pop is infectious.

Gemini Club (3PM on the Dos Equis Stage, Sunday 9/1): Dapper dudes, producers, remixers, DJs; a club that you want to belong to.

JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound (9PM on the Dos Equis Stage, Sunday 9/1): Chicago post-punk soul with two Bloodshot Records in the can; maybe the only local band that can go head-to-head with co-headliners Wu Tang Clan and Lotus.
